IND vs AUS 4th Test: Shami is expected to replace Siraj, with Ishan Kishan set to make his debut - Report

Ishan Kishan could make his debut in the fourth Test against Australia, while Mohammed Shami could replace Mohammed Siraj. With a place in the World Test Championship final at stake, the Indian team is likely to undergo some changes following a 9-wicket defeat in Indore.

Mohammed Shami may return to the playing XI after being rested for the fourth Test in Ahmedabad, and Ishan Kishan may also make his Test debut. Mohammed Siraj has played in all three Tests of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 and may be rested for the series finale, while KS Bharat may also be rested. According to the Indian Express, Shami and Kishan will be the two changes to the Indian playing XI for the fourth Test.

Team India won the first Test in Nagpur by 132 runs and an innings, and they retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 for the fourth time in a row with a six-wicket win in Delhi. However, the previous match saw Indian players struggle on a rank turner, so some changes are possible given that a spot in the WTC final and the series are on the line.

While Siraj hasn't made a mistake in the series so far, Shami would add more bite to the Indian pace attack alongside the impressive Umesh Yadav. Bharat, meanwhile, has been impressive with his glovework, but his batting has disappointed fans. While judging Bharat's batting on such a small sample size may be unfair, Kishan could be a like-for-like replacement for Rishabh Pant, and if the Ahmedabad pitch turns out to be another rank-turner, Kishan's smash-bang approach could come in handy, given his history with the Jharkhand side in domestic cricket.

While Pat Cummins will continue to be by his ailing mother's side, Australia is expected to designate the same starting lineup. Steve Smith will once again serve as the team's captain. The Australians will seek revenge while the hosts will focus on a spot in the WTC final because the series is still very much in play.
