Key Stats
48.6 Matt Henry to Lasith Malinga
OUT! Bowled. Matt Henry to Lasith Malinga. Yorker, middle stump backing away defending, missed to. New Zealand have beaten Sri Lanka by 45 runs in a thrilling First ODI at Bay Oval. The match was set up by a brutal Martin Guptill century, laying the foundations for a massive Kiwi total. The right-handed opener was typically fluent through the offside and found useful partners in Kane Williamson (76) and Ross Taylor (54) , before Jimmy Neesham took over by smoking 47 from just 13 deliveries. The tourists weren't at their best in the field, but quickly put that behind them as Niroshan Dickwella (76) got the chase off to an explosive start. Kusal Perera played beautifully for his 4th ODI hundred, however wickets kept falling at the other end as the required rate began to spiral out of control. Neesham completed a fine all-round display by chipping in with 38-3, as Sri Lanka ended up falling comfortably short of the target. Plenty of runs today at Mount Maunganui in an entertaining match, let's hope for more of the same in the Second ODI in two days time.
