RCB Facing Sale Rumours Again After IPL Victory Stampede? BCCI Showcause Notice Drops Bombshell

Royal Challengers Bengaluru gave their supporters a chance to dance in joy by winning their first IPL trophy this year. But the celebration of this victory turned into a terrible accident outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium. On June 4, a crowd of lakhs gathered uncontrollably in the famous stadium of Bangalore. During this, a stampede broke out in which 11 people lost their lives and more than fifty people were injured.

Now this whole matter has become a noose around RCB's neck. The Central Administrative Tribunal directly held the franchise responsible for this accident. According to reports, RCB did not take the necessary police permission for this event. No concrete plan was made to handle the crowd. The result was that three to five lakh people gathered together, and the police also did not have the right arrangements.

Due to this negligence, RCB's marketing head, Nikhil Sosale, has been arrested by the police. Apart from this, BCCI Ombudsman Justice (Retd.) Arun Mishra has sent a notice to RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association. They have been asked to respond to 'gross negligence' and 'violation of safety standards'.

Meanwhile, another shocking thing has come to light. Justice Mishra has said in his letter that RCB are preparing to change the ownership to wash its hands of this accident. Some time ago, there was news that Diageo PLC, which is the parent company of RCB, may sell its stake. Although the company denied these reports, this point has been raised seriously in the BCCI notice.

Now, RCB and Karnataka Cricket Association have to give their reply within four weeks. Meanwhile, they have been ordered to keep the 'status quo'. The celebration of the IPL victory has now turned into the biggest problem for the franchise.

A sports organisation should be responsible not only on the field but also off the field. The name that RCB earned by winning the trophy for the first time, the same name is now being tarnished by this accident. When lakhs of people gather at one place, the responsibility of security arrangements lies with the organiser. Before making police arrangements, the organisers should have prepared a plan to control the crowd.

If RCB had taken police permission at the right time and made proper security arrangements, then perhaps so many families would not have lost their loved ones. Success is not just about winning a match and lifting the trophy; the real victory lies in maintaining the trust of the people.

Now the question is, will BCCI and Karnataka Cricket Association also be able to escape from this responsibility? The way the Ombudsman has sent the notice, it seems that this matter will not calm down soon. We believe that strict action should be taken against the culprits so that no franchise repeats such a mistake in future. If the investigation proves an attempt to change the ownership, then questions will be raised on that, too. People's lives cannot be risked for a trophy. This accident reminds the world of cricket that no occasion of celebration is bigger than discipline and security.
