BGT 2023: Mood in Australian camp still really positive, can't wait to get back, says Cameron Green

The Australian team is in a good spirit, according to all-rounder Cameron Green, who said the visitors are eager to play the third Test and salvage something from the remaining Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

Australia lost the first two Test matches in quick succession, falling 2-0, and has already given the prestigious trophy to India. After fully recovering from a finger injury, Cameron Green said on Friday that he will be able to play in the third Test, which begins March 1 in Indore.

Green travelled with the Australian team well in advance of the first Test, but he was unable to play in the first two Tests due to complications from a finger operation. Australia suffered as a result of poor picking decisions in the first Test due to Green's absence. Australia was able to change their strategy for the Delhi second test, but despite leading after the first innings, they dropped the match by six wickets after a terrible batting session.

Australia's problems were exacerbated by the return of players like Josh Hazlewood and David Warner due to injury concerns, while captain Pat Cummins confirmed on Friday that he would miss the third Test to be with his ailing mother. Cummins left for Sydney after the second Test in Delhi, and the skipper was expected to return to lead the team in Indore.

"Yes. Still very good. Yeah. Everyone knows how good of a team we are. We're obviously not a number one at the moment, but we were for a year there and we're all still the same players. "We still have the ability to play really good cricket, and we've had two or three days off now, and we can't wait to get back into it," Green said in New Delhi. Australia's ability to recover from the two thrashings in Nagpur and Delhi has been called into question, but Green is confident that the visitors can compete in the series.

Notably, Australian selector Tony Dodemaide said earlier this week that Australia are desperate to get a result out in the last 2 Tests and that they are not thinking too far ahead, in terms of planning for the World Test Championship final and the Ashes. "We are very very keen as everyone I'm sure at home would be as well for us to get something out of this remaining series.

The series can still be drawn here. That is a tall order to fulfil. That is without a doubt. But, you know, we're desperate to get a result out of these last two games for the World Test Championship," Dodemaide had said. The third Test will be held in Indore, while the series finale will be held in Ahmedabad beginning March 9. In March, Australia will also play a three-match One-Day International series against India.
