Sri Lanka's middle-order batsman Kusal Mendis faced an embarrassing situation after Sri Lanka's win over Bangladesh in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) at Colombo. Mendis was seen riding one of the two bikes which were presented during the post-match presentation. While Mendis was riding the bike, another player was on the pillion seat. While zipping in the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium Mendis lost control and the bike slipped on the grass. It appeared, fortunately, none of the players was injured. The security present at the ground rushed towards the bike and helped Menids and another player get back on their feet.
Sri Lanka completed a whitewash series win over Bangladesh after winning the third ODI by a massive margin of 122 runs. Set 294 runs to win, Bangladesh were bundled out for 172 in 36 overs. Mendis scored 54 off 58 balls while batting at number four. But it was former captain Angelo Mathews who walked away with Man of the Match award. The right-handed batsman scored 87 off 90 balls. Mathews was also named as the Player of the Series. Apart from the half-century in the third ODI, Mathews scored 48 and unbeaten 52 in the first and second ODIs respectively. Mendis, on the other hand, too had a good outing during the series as he scored 43 and unbeaten 41 in the first two matches respectively.
Sri Lankan cricket team had dedicated the third ODI to fast-bowler Nuwan Kulasekara, who recently retired from international cricket. Sri Lanka had won the first two ODIs by 91 runs and seven wickets respectively.
