Shreyas Iyer became the second captain in IPL history to register 1000 runs for two franchises when Punjab Kings faced Mumbai Indians at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium, Dharamshala, Chelian on Thursday, the 14th of May. MI won the toss and chose to bowl first. PBKS scored 200/8 in 20 overs as Prabhsimran Singh was the highest scorer, scoring 57 in 32 balls, hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes for PBKS.

Azmatullah Omarzai scored 38 in 17 balls, hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes. Pacer Shardul Thakur registered figures of 4/39 for MI. Tilak Varma was the highest scorer for MI, scoring 75 in 33 balls, hitting 6 fours and 6 sixes, while Ryan Rickelton scored 48 in 23 balls, hitting 4 fours and 4 sixes. MI won by 6 wickets in 19.5 overs.

Iyer registered this record in the 12 over when he hit Shardul Thakur for a boundary. He became the second captain for PBKS after KL Rahul to score 1000 runs as captain and also the second captain to score 1000 runs for two different IPL teams.

Rahul scored 1395 runs in 39 IPL games as Lucknow Super Giants captain and 1296 runs in 27 IPL games as PBKS captain. Iyer scored 1242 runs in 41 IPL games as Delhi Capitals captain and recently scored 1000 runs in 29 IPL games as PBKS captain.

Iyer became the third fastest batter to register 1000 runs for PBKS after Shaun Marsh and KL Rahul, who scored 1000 runs in 21 and 23 innings, respectively for PBKS. The right-hander is the 11th player to register 1000 runs for PBKS. The Mumbai batter has also scored 2375 runs in 87 games for Delhi Capitals and 752 runs in 29 games for KKR in his IPL career.
