Sai Sudarshan produced yet another impressive knock for the Gujarat Titans, scoring 61 in 44 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, the 12th of May. On his way, the left-hander overcame Virat Kohli’s record in IPL history. SRH won the toss and chose to field first.

GT scored 168/5 in 20 overs. The 24-year-old Tamil Nadu batter hit 5 fours and 2 sixes. Washington Sundar scored 50 in 33 balls, hitting 7 fours and 1 six. Pacers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain registered figures of 17/2 and 37/2 for SRH.

SRH were bowled out for just 86 runs in 14.5 overs as pacer Kagiso Rabada registered figures of 3/28 and West Indian all-rounder Jason Holder registered figures of 3/20 with his clever medium pace.

With this win, GT are at the top of the points table with 16 points, winning 8 out of the 12 games they have played so far in the ongoing season. Sudarshan achieved a unique record by overcoming Virat Kohli’s IPL record as he became the 6th player to score 500-plus runs in back-to-back IPL seasons. Sudarshan scored 527 runs in 12 IPL games in 2024, 759 runs in 15 IPL games in 2025, and currently, he has already scored 501 runs in 12 IPL games in the ongoing season.

Sudarshan has showcased tremendous consistency in his IPL career. On Tuesday, Sudarshan highlighted clever shot selections on the back foot as well as on the front foot. Effortless stroke play and placement have always been the highlights of his batting. Sudarshan possesses a strike rate of 155.10 in the current IPL season.

Former left-handed West Indian opener Chris Gayle is the only other player to register a strike rate of over 140 and score 500-plus runs in an IPL season. Sudarshan is amongst the most gifted stroke players in modern-day T20 cricket, and his performance has been a boon for GT.
