IPL 2026: Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha signed as replacement for the injured Ramakrishna Ghosh by Chennai Super Kings

CSK included Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha in the squad as a replacement for the 28-year-old all-rounder Ramkrishna Ghosh, who injured his foot while playing against the Mumbai Indians on the 2nd of May at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Noronha has been signed for a sum of INR 30 lakhs by CSK.

It was a disappointing start to his IPL career as Ramakrishna Ghosh was injured in his debut IPL game, but it was a blessing in disguise for 24-year-old Macneil Noronha. Recently, BCCI awarded Noronha the MA Chidambaram Trophy at the Naman Awards as the 24-year-old all-rounder was the highest run scorer in the 2024-25 Col CK Nayudu Trophy.

Noronha made an impression in the Maharaja Trophy in 2025, scoring 253 runs in 13 matches with a strike rate of 148.82, helping Mangaluru Dragons win the trophy. He hit 19 sixes in the entire tournament. Noronha was a useful contributor with the ball, claiming 10 wickets with his clever off-break throughout the tournament, and also registered figures of 2/25 against Hubli Tigers in the final. He was included in the Karnataka squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he played in 3 games, scoring 58 runs and claiming 1 wicket.

Since the start of the 19th edition, CSK’s team combinations have been affected by constant injuries to players like Nathan Ellis, Ayush Mhatre, former India wicket-keeper batter and captain MS Dhoni, Khaleel Ahmed, and Spencer Johnson. Ramakrishna Ghosh is the latest casualty in the list.

CSK are currently at the 5th position in the points table with 12 points, winning 6 from 11 games they have played so far in the season. From now on, every match will be a must-win game for them to make it to the playoffs.
