India vs England Test Series: Shubman Gill is Announced as India's New Test Captain

Shubhman Gill 37th Test Captain for India: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced the new Test captain of Team India. Team India's selection committee chief and former Indian all-rounder Ajit Agarkar held a press conference in Mumbai and announced Shubman Gill as the new captain of India. Jaspreet Bumrah, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant were also in the race for captaincy, but the team management, head coach and selectors have expressed confidence in this young man. He will be seen carrying forward Rohit Sharma's glorious legacy in England. The Indian team has to play a five-match Test series on the England tour, which will start from June 20 at the Leeds Cricket Stadium.

There was a discussion about Gill ever since Rohit Sharma retired. However, many former cricketers also supported Jasprit Bumrah. While announcing the team, Agarkar said, 'Bumrah was the vice-captain and then the captain on the Australia tour, but there is extra pressure on him while captaining. He is more important to us as a player. We want him to stay fit and contribute to the victory. While captaining, apart from bowling, one has to manage 15-16 people and we did not want to put pressure on him.' On the other hand, regarding not making KL Rahul the captain, Agarkar said that he has been the captain before and his name was not in our radar. We wanted a captain who could lead the Indian team for some time ahead.

While announcing the name of the captain, Ajit Agarkar said that Shubman Gill will be the captain of the team and Rishabh Pant is the vice-captain of the team. Along with this, he said that I do not think that Jasprit Bumrah will be available for all the matches. Regarding Virat Kohli's retirement, the Chief Selector said that he had told about retirement in April itself.
