Marcus Stoinis Retired from ODI Cricket: Marcus Stoinis, who was part of Australia's World Cup winning team, has taken the shocking decision to retire from ODI cricket with immediate effect. This decision has come just a few days before the announcement of the Champions Trophy. But he will continue to play in the T20I format.

Stoinis was included in Australia's 15-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy tournament starting in Pakistan and the UAE later this month but Cricket Australia will now have to find a replacement for him in the final squad to be announced by February 12.

Australian cricket team is currently playing a Test series in Sri Lanka. After this, the team will play a two-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, which will be important from the point of view of preparations for the Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, Marcus Stoinis has suddenly announced to quit ODI cricket. Marcus Stoinis has played 74 ODI matches for Australia. He was also part of the team in 2023 that won the ODI World Cup in India.

Along with the announcement of retirement from ODIs, a statement by Marcus Stoinis has also come out. “Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every moment I’ve had in the green and gold. Representing my country at the highest level is something I’ll always cherish," Stoinis said.

“This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right time for me to step away from ODIs and fully focus on the next chapter of my career. I’ve got a fantastic relationship with Ron (Andrew McDonald) and I’ve hugely appreciated his support.

“I’ll be cheering the boys on in Pakistan.”

“Not only has he been an invaluable player but also an incredible person to have in the group. He is a natural leader, an exceptionally popular player and a great person. He should be congratulated on his ODI career and all of his achievements,” said Australia's head coach Andrew McDonald.

Marcus has scored 1495 runs in 71 ODI matches. He has only one century in this format, when he scored an unbeaten 146 runs. However, he has scored six half-centuries. His average is around 26. Marcus is also useful for his team because he also shows his prowess in bowling. He has also taken 48 wickets.

Australia's National Selection Panel (NSP) will finalise the squad for the Champion’s Trophy following the conclusion of the Test series against Sri Lanka.
