Mumbai Cricket Association recently announced that it has approved a request to name a stand after former India captain and commentator Ravi Shastri at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The Level 1 stand, which is below the press box, will be named after the former India coach.
“Mumbai Cricket Association” stated that the decision was made keeping in mind Shastri’s contribution to Indian and Mumbai Cricket both as a player and a coach.
MCA has also decided to name stands after former legends Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar & Diana Edulji
MCA’s Apex Council also took a major decision approving the names of three stadium gates after former India players Eknath Solkar, Diana Edulji and Dilip Sardesai. Gate No 5 will be named after Diana Edulji, Gate No. 6 will be named after Eknath Solkar, while Gate No. 3 will be named after Dilip Sardesai.
The Mumbai Cricket Association stated that these players have played a crucial role in taking Mumbai Cricket to greater heights and have also made contributions to Indian cricket.
MCA further added that this initiative would honour their achievements and motivateupcoming cricketers, and help in providing inputs to the fans about the contribution of these legendary players to Indian cricket. MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated that this initiative was aimed at honouring these former legends.
He also said that the Mumbai Cricket has a rich cricketing history that was built by these legends, and it was MCA’s responsibility to honour players who made the city as well as the nation proud through their achievements. Level 1 stand, which is just below the press box, will be named after Ravi Shastri, and it is the perfect way to honor his contribution as a player, captain and coach.
Naming gates after former legends like Eknath Solkar, Diana Edulji and Dilip Sardesai will provide valuable insights to the fans about the contributions of these players to Indian cricket that would help preserve the cricketing history of Mumbai’s domestic cricket as well as Indian cricket. Naik further added that this decision highlights MCA’s resolve to highlight the achievements of the past players that would motivate budding cricketers.
