Sri Lankan captain highlighted her match-winning capabilities with the bat as well as with the ball in the second T20I against the West Indies at the National Cricket Stadium, St George’s, Grenada on Sunday, the 1st of March. The first T20I was washed out due to rain.
Sri Lanka women won the toss and chose to field first. Except for captain and all-rounder Hayley Matthews, no West Indian batter looked comfortable against the Sri Lankan bowlers. Matthews was the highest scorer for the West Indies women, scoring 28. West Indies women were bowled out for 101 in 20 overs.
Medium pacer Malki Madara registered figures of 3/16, while another pacer Nilakshika Silva registered figures of 3/20 for Sri Lanka women. Captain Chamari Athapaththu registered figures of 2/13 with her clever off-break.
Sri Lankan bowlers showcased tremendous accuracy with their length. While chasing, Captain Athapaththu was the highest scorer, scoring 39. Sri Lanka chased 102 in 18.1 overs by 4 wickets. Opener Hasini Perera scored 18 while batting all-rounder Kavisha Dilhari scored an unbeaten 18 batting at no 7.
Leb break bowler Afy Fletcher registered figures of 2/16 in 4 overs, while left-arm orthodox bowler Qiana Joseph registered figures of 2/13 for the West Indies women. West Indian bowlers made a strong comeback, but the score was quite low to defend.
Sri Lankan bowlers used the conditions well and took wickets regularly, not allowing the West Indian batters to build partnerships. Sri Lanka won the ODI series 2-1 and will be looking to win the T20I series. Both teams will face each other on Tuesday, the 3rd of March, at the same venue in Grenada.
Sri Lanka women would be aiming to win the game that would enable them to win the T20I series 2-0, while the West Indies women will look to win this game that would enable them to equalise the series 1-1.
