ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Bangladesh is the host of Women's T20 World Cup this time. The competition is scheduled to be held in October. But the International Cricket Council (ICC) is worried about the current political situation in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh may miss out on hosting the Women's Twenty20 World Cup. ICC officials are worried about how safe or possible it will be to host the World Cup in the country's current political situation. But no decision is being taken yet. ICC officials have decided to keep an eye on the situation for the time being. Women's T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held from October 3 to 20. The matches are scheduled to be held at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka and Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
According to the report of Cricbuzz, if the hosting of the tournament is taken from Bangladesh then it will not be a shocking decision. There is curfew in the country for a long time. Along with the internet shutdown, riots, arson and violence are taking place. ICC can take a decision in a week. India is a strong contender among other options.
UAE, India and Sri Lanka have been shortlisted as backup venues by the ICC informally according to a report in ESPNCricinfo. An official of the world cricketing body confirmed the development on Monday (August 6) that the situation in Bangladesh is currently being monitored and the decision will be taken accordingly.
"The ICC is closely monitoring developments in co-ordination with the Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB], their security agencies and our own independent security consultants. Our priority is the safety and well-being of all participants," the statement from the ICC read.
