West Indies announce squad for the three-match T20I series against Australia

West Indies have announced the 15-player squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia at home. West Indies haven’t made any changes in the squad and have selected the same players who played against Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series at home recently, which Sri Lanka women won 2-0.

Hayley Matthews will be the captain, and all three T20I games will be played at the Arnos Vale Cricket Stadium in Kingston. The 15-player squad looks balanced with a mix of youth and experience.

Captain Hayley Matthews, Deandra Dottin and Stefanie Taylor have vast experience in international cricket, while the team consists of upcoming talents like Jahzara Claxton and Ebony Braithwaite. The series will help the team prepare for the Women’s T20 World Cup that will be played in England in June this year.

Head Coach Shane Deitz stated that the series would be crucial, as it will help them understand where the team stands in terms of preparation. Facing a number one team will also help identify the team’s weaknesses and strengths as the team prepares for the T20 World Cup in England.

Deitz stated that the series would be challenging, and since the team hasn’t played against Australia since October 2023, it will help them introspect on how the team has progressed since then. Deitz stated that the series will help them know where the team has improved and where the work needs to be done as we advance. Deitz added that the players are eager to highlight their talent, and it’s going to be an exciting series.

The first match would be played on the 19th of March, while the second and third T20Is would be played on the 21st and 23rd of March, respectively. Following the three-match T20I series, both teams will take on each other in the three-match ODI series that will be played at Warner Park in St Kitts and Nevis.
