Ross Taylor's suggestion, no need for a super over in ODIs

Veteran batsman Ross Taylor of New Zealand has suggested that super overs are not needed in 50-over ODI matches. If matches like World Cup finals are tied then the trophy should be shared. Along with Ross Taylor, many other players believe the same.

Talking to ESPN Cricinfo, Ross Taylor said, 'I am still in a dilemma over the Super Over in One Day matches. I think the one-day match is played for a long time and I have no problem in ending the match as a tie.’

Ross Taylor further said, 'It is right to continue the match in T20 as it happens in football or other sports, so that the winner can be determined. But I do not think that super over is necessary in one day matches. I believe there can be a joint winner. '

Ross Taylor said, 'During the World Cup final I actually went to the umpires and I said that the match was good. I didn't know there would be a super over either. If the match is tie, it should remain a tie. I believe that you have to play 100 overs in ODIs and even then if someone still stays in the end, then I think the tie is not a bad result.’

Actually last year, the World Cup final match was played between England and New Zealand. It was a very exciting match. The match tied. The super over began after the tie. This was the first time that a super over was played in a World Cup final. Both teams were in such good form that the super over was also tied.

Now people do not understand what will happen next. But at that time the ICC's rule was that if the super over is also tied, then the winner will be chosen based on the count of the boundary. In that match, England scored more boundaries. That is why England was declared the winner.

The ICC was criticized for declaring someone as the winner in a big match like the World Cup final on the basis of the boundary. Almost all the cricketers demanded the removal of this rule. The ICC changed this rule after this match. Now according to the new rule, if a super over is tied in the final match of the World Cup, then more super overs will be played until the result come.
