Following the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday, May 1 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were fined 100% of their match fees.

"Lucknow Super Giants' coach Gautam Gambhir has been fined 100 percent of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow," an IPL media release stated.

"Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Virat Kohli has been fined 100% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow," the release said.

Following the game, Kohli and Gambhir got into a verbal spat, which required Amit Mishra, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis, and LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya to restore order. Kohli was then spotted conversing with LSG captain KL Rahul. Naveen-ul-Haq, a right-arm fast bowler for LSG, was also penalised 50% of his match earnings for violating the IPL's Code of Conduct.

Naveen got into a heated exchange with Kohli at the traditional post-match handshake. "Mr Naveen-ul-Haq admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct," according to the statement. After defending a modest 126 in Lucknow, RCB overcame the Super Giants by 18 runs on Monday.
