Shubman Gill registered a unique record while playing for GT in the 19th edition of the IPL on Thursday, the 30th of April, against RCB at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. GT won the toss and chose to bowl first. RCB scored 155/6 in 20 overs.

Devdutt Padikkal was the highest scorer for RCB, scoring 40, while Virat Kohli scored 28. Left-arm seamer from Madhya Pradesh, Arshad Khan, registered figures of 3/22 for GT, while leg spinner Rashid Khan registered figures of 2/19.

GT chased the target in 15.5 overs with 4 wickets remaining. Captain Shubman Gill was the highest scorer for GT, scoring 43 in 18 balls, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes, while wicket-keeper batter Jos Buttler scored 39 in 19 balls. Bhuvneshwar Kumar registered figures of 3/28 for RCB.

Amidst this, Shubman Gill became the first player to hit 100 sixes for GT in the history of IPL. Gill opened the batting and started on an aggressive note. In the second over during the run chase, Gill hit 2 fours and 2 sixes off the bowling of pacer Josh Hazlewood. During his innings, Gill became the first player to hit 100 sixes for the franchise in the history of the competition. Gill has so far hit 136 sixes in his IPL career

A key figure in the batting department for GT

The right-hander has been the core of the GT batting lineup since he was bought by the franchise in their debut season in 2022. His effortless stroke play has been his trademark, but the 26-year-old has also recently transformed himself into an innovative stroke player, combining power and placement.

Gill has so far scored 4239 runs in 126 IPL games, registering 4 centuries and 29 half-centuries. He scored 890 runs in 17 IPL games during the 2023 season while playing for GT.
