Bhuvneshwar Kumar registered a unique record when Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced Chennai Super Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Sunday, the 5th of April. CSK won the toss and chose to field first.

The wicket at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is favourable for the batters in most cases, and on this occasion, the situation was similar.

RCB scored 250/3 in 20 overs as Australian batter Tim David scored an unbeaten 70 in 25 balls, smashing 8 sixes and 3 fours, while Devdutt Padikkal scored 50 in 29 balls. Captain Rajat Patidar scored an unbeaten 48 in 19 balls, hitting 6 sixes and 1 four.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar shines for RCB

When CSK came out to chase a big total, it was definitely going to be a tough task. Bhuvneshwar Kumar impressed with the ball, claiming 3/41 in 4 overs. The 36-year-old veteran pacer claimed crucial wickets of Ayush Mhatre and Prashant Veer when the situation was dicey.

He later claimed the wicket of Noor Ahmed and helped RCB win the game by 43 runs. He registered a unique record in the process by becoming the first pacer in the history of the league to take 200 wickets. Overall, Bhuvneshwar became the second bowler to achieve this record. Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is at the top with 224 wickets.

Sunil Narine is third in the list with 193 wickets, followed by Piyush Chawla and Ravichandran Ashwin with 192 and 187 wickets respectively. Bhuvneshwar has played in 192 IPL games so far and won the Purple Cap during the 2016 and 2017 editions while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He was bought for a sum of INR 10.75 crore by RCB during the 2025 auctions. The Uttar Pradesh pacer played a crucial role during the 2025 IPL season, claiming 17 wickets in the entire season and helping RCB win their first IPL trophy.
