IPL 2024: Adam Zampa and Jason Roy Explained the Reason for not Playing in IPL

Jason Roy's Withdraw from IPL :

English star Jason Roy withdrew from IPL this year. This opener of Kolkata Knight Riders has now revealed the reason for his withdrawal.

Roy played IPL 2023 season for Kolkata Knight Riders. Roy got a chance as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan last year for 2.8 crore rupees. He did a great performance. He scored 285 runs with the bat at an average of 151.59 strike rate and 35.62. However, this right-handed batsman withdrew his name due to personal reasons before the start of the current season of IPL. Another English batter Phil Salt got a chance instead.

The last one and year half has been quite challenging for Roy. After not getting a chance in England's T20 World Cup squad in 2022, he did not even play in the ODI World Cup last October. After finishing the year in T-10 for Chennai Braves, Roy played two matches in ILT-20 for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. Before that Roy played SAT-20 for Durban Super Giants. Played for Quetta Gladiators in PSL.

Speaking on a podcast recently, Roy explained that he decided to sit out this edition of the IPL due to his desire to spend quality time at home with his family during the second half of the winter.

"Missing this year's IPL was a huge decision, I think. KKR put so much trust in me by retaining me after a decent year last year and being available for them throughout the year and all the other competitions, you know, I felt like I owe them a huge amount,” Roy said on the podcast.

“It was a very big decision, but a decision I came to just because it was my daughter's fifth birthday as soon as our first game was, there were a few things going on, I was quite tired after the start of my year.
"I've come off the back of not a huge amount of cricket, so the last couple of months have really taken it out of me. And so I was very honest to KKR and we've got a fantastic relationship, so we were able to come to an agreement and stuff like that on why I wasn't coming. They completely understood so I'm very grateful to them for that. But I just had to put myself first, you know, just mindset and body."

"I kind of said to myself, 'I'm okay, I'm okay', and I kept going, and I kept playing, and I stayed away from home. And you know, I ended up just shooting myself in the foot. This year and from that point, I basically said to myself, I'm just going to listen to my head, listen to my heart and figure it out from there on in.
"That was a huge learning curve for me, to be able to make decisions like I have this year, you know, and it can look a certain way. But it's nothing to do with anyone else, it's absolutely nothing to do with anyone else.

"It's your decision - I've got a young family, I'm a grown man and I've made the decision off the back of a lot of thoughts. I've not just woken up one morning and thought, 'You know what - I actually don't feel like getting on that flight to India'. A lot of thought has gone into it, and yeah, it's become far easier to talk about and a far easier decision, just because you know, especially from past experiences, what that can do to you,"  Roy added.

Adam Zampa also Revealed about his Withdraw :

Australian leg-spinner Adam Jumper was supposed to play for Rajasthan Royals in this season of IPL. However, Zampa removed his name before the event. He has revealed the reason for not playing in the IPL this time.

Zampa was an important member of Australia's team in the last 2023 ODI World Cup held in India. Taking advantage of India's conditions, Zampa took top wickets for Ajid. Australia also got the taste of winning the sixth ODI World Cup. After the World Cup, Zampa also played in the Big Bash and the West Indies and New Zealand series. As a result of the continuous game, Zampa got quite tired. Apart from this, Zampa said that he has decided to remove himself from the IPL due to the T20 World Cup ahead.

Zampa said recently on the Willow Talk podcast “There are several reasons why the IPL wasn’t for me this year. The most important one was the fact that it’s a World Cup year and I’m completely drained from 2023,” the player who was supposed to represent the Rajasthan Royals, said on Willow Talk.

“I did the full IPL last year. Obviously, the World Cup was three months in India as well. I had the best intentions of trying to play the IPL again this year. But once push came to shove, I felt like I just couldn’t really offer the Rajasthan Royals the best version of myself and looking forward to the World Cup, that’s what’s more important to me, that’s for sure,” the off-spinner who was part of the Australian team which won the 50-over World Cup last year, said.

“It came down to my decision being I probably need to put my body and my mental health first. Then you throw other things into the equation as well, like the fact that I’ve got a young family. It’s not easy to spend nine weeks in India in my situation where I’m fighting for my spot in the team as well. It’s not like I can say to myself, ‘Well, that’s alright I’ve got 14 games to prepare for a World Cup’. I don’t know whether or not that’s going to be two games or four games or six games,” he said.

“I kind of worked out that maybe just to rest, putting my family first, putting my body first, was better for me,” he added.

Zampa has decided to pull himself out of this year's IPL due to his importance in the team as well as the thought of the World Cup and his physical, mental and family conditions. However, Rajasthan Royals have been playing very well without him. Rajasthan is at the top of the points table with 8 points as a result of 4 wins from 5 matches played so far. Five days after the IPL final on April 26, the T20 World Cup will be played between the West Indies and the United States on June 1.
