Dinesh Chandimal to join Sri Lanka Army Cricket team
Former Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal is ready to join the Army as a Commissioned Officer, Army Spokesman Major General Sumith Atapattu said on Wednesday, September 25.

Major General Atapattu said that Chandimal's solicitation had been acknowledged by the Defense Ministry and that he is expected to play for the Sri Lanka Army Cricket team.

Recently Chandimal had been going through much bad times. He was sacked as a Test captain in February and also dropped from the test squad for the series against South Africa. After that, he was also axed from the World Cup squad which was really a shocking moment for the experienced player like Chandimal.

But his numbers showed that he'd been struggling to get runs since 2018. He has aggregated just 863 runs in 27 matches across the three formats since 2018 at a middling average of 31.96 with just one hundred and three fifties.

Always considered as the future of Sri Lankan cricket, Chandimal could never do any justice to his talent. Recently he had been picked again for the home test series against New Zealand where the hosts drew the series by 1-1. Chandimal didn't get any chance to play in the series.

However, the positive thing is that he's going to start a new career. The Army Spokesman included that the former national team skipper would need to confront an entrance exam in not so distant future. Armed force Spokesman Major General Sumith Attapattu said Chandimal is to be enrolled to the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force as a Commissioned Officer of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps.
