Jasprit Bumrah has carved out a reputation for himself as one of the most successful bowlers for India. His ability to bowl yorkers at crucial junctures and his speciality to mount pressure on the batsmen sets him a class apart from most other bowlers in the Indian cricket team.
The fast bowler is ranked as World No.1 in ODIs and he is carrying a similar bit of momentum in the longest format of the game. He was actually rested for the limited-overs series against West Indies and he returned to action in the World Test Championship campaign where he looked a bit jaded as the game progressed.
He could just pick only 1 wicket to his name. But when he was given the new ball to bowl in the second innings, he showed why is the main man for India.
Bumrah was pretty much focussed on getting wickets for the team as he gave away only 7 runs and took 5 wickets and it's because of him, India bundled out the hosts for a paltry 100 and a result, India chipped in with a colossal 318 run-victory.
With this epic bowling spell, Jasprit Bumrah joined an elite list of performers in Test cricket. In the longest format history, only 11 bowlers have the distinction of taking five or more wicket haul in an innings giving away 10 or less than 10 runs.
In this special list, four bowlers are from Australia, two are from England, South Africa and West Indies but only one bowler from India and that is Jasprit Bumrah.
The other bowlers are none other than George Lohmann, Gilligan, Bert Ironmonger, Ernie Toshack, May, Lawson, Michael Clarke, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Kemar Roach.
Speaking after the match, Jasprit Bumrah told Rohit Sharma how he took advantage of the breeze and made an instant impact using his outswingers."Outswing was something I always tried to use but when conditions were helpful like this. It was going away well with the breeze," Bumrah told Sharma in a video posted on BCCI's official website.
"I am feeling very good. As a bowling unit, we came with attacking options. Me and Ishant (Sharma) were trying to use the (width of) crease too, to generate the swing. A lot of hard work goes into my delivery," he further added.
