South Africa Won WTC Final 2025: South Africa defeated Australia on Saturday to win the ICC World Test Championship title. Australia had set a target of 282 runs for South Africa to win, which South Africa won by 5 wickets thanks to Aiden Markram's century and a 147-run partnership with captain Temba Bavuma. South Africa has won the ICC trophy after 27 years. Earlier, South Africa won the Champions Trophy in 1998.

In the first innings, Australia scored 212 runs thanks to half-century innings of Beau Webster and Steve Smith. During this, Kagiso Rabada took a total of five wickets. At the same time, South Africa's first innings ended at 138 runs, giving Australia a lead of 74 runs. During this, captain Pat Cummins took a total of six wickets. Australia scored 207 runs in the second innings thanks to Mitchell Starc's unbeaten half-century and took a total lead of 281 runs. Chasing the target of 282 runs, South Africa scored 282 runs for the loss of five wickets on the fourth day on the basis of Aiden Markram's century and captain Temba Bavuma's half-century and won the title.

South Africa's most successful run chase in Tests came against Australia. In that match played in Perth in 2008, South Africa achieved a target of 414 runs. Against this team, it has also achieved a target of 335 runs in Durban in 2002. Now South Africa has done the third successful run chase of its Test career against Australia. This is also the joint second highest run chase at Lord's ground. This is the fifth time that a target of 200+ runs has been achieved in Tests at this ground.

Aiden Markram, who scored a brilliant century in the title match of WTC 2025, has been selected as the Player of the Match. He played a brilliant innings of 136 runs against Australia. Apart from this, he also took two wickets.

South Africa Ended a 27-year Drought

South Africa has won an ICC title after a gap of 27 years. The team last won the Knockout Trophy (now Champions) in 1998. The team led by Temba Bavuma ended this title drought and registered a historic win at Lord's ground. Captain Bavuma and Aiden Markram's contribution was very important in South Africa's victory. These two batsmen shared a 147-run partnership for the third wicket and laid the foundation for the team's victory.

2021 WTC Final

The first edition began with the 2019 Ashes series and ended in June 2021. The final match was played between New Zealand and India, in which the Kiwis defeated the team led by then captain Virat Kohli. The Indian team, which reached the final after winning 12 out of 17 matches, was defeated by New Zealand by eight wickets to win the title.

The second edition began on August 4, 2021 and ended in June 2023. India and Australia faced each other in the final match of the World Test Championship.
