Players and Umpires Showed Their Support to ‘Black Lives Matter’ Movement

International cricket has finally returned after a long wait. Due to the outbreak of Corona, no international cricket match could be played for 117 days. After a long wait, the Test series between England and West Indies has started. This first test is being played in Southampton, England. It was raining on the field even before the match started.

The toss was delayed due to rain. England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and decided to bat first. But before the match started, there was a wonderful sight on the field. All the players and umpires on the field sat on the knee and opposed apartheid. All players showed their support to the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement.

Protests against apartheid began worldwide after the recent murder of a black citizen George Floyd in America by police. Apart from football and cricket, all sports players supported the 'Black Lives Matter' movement. West Indies players had already decided that they would support this movement in this series.

Fans, who have been waiting for cricket to return for almost 4 months, felt disappointed. The game of the first day stopped for a long time due to rain. Repeated rains spoiled the game. Due to rain, only 17.4 overs were played in which England scored 35 runs for one wicket. Rory Burns was playing at 20 and Joe Denly was playing at 14.

All sports tournaments, including cricket, were halted due to the worldwide corona epidemic. But after 117 days, England made their bilateral Test series with the West Indies amidst many changes. During this, many precautions are being taken and the match is also being played without spectators in the empty stadium. Cricket has come back after a long time.
