After a three-match T20I series stalemate, India and South Africa are poised to square off again in a three-match ODI series across multiple sites in South Africa. This forthcoming ODI series is part of India's South Africa Tour 2023. The first match of the two sides' recent T20I series was called out due to weather, while India and South Africa each won one game, resulting in a series tie.

Suryakumar Yadav led the men in blue in the T20I format. In the one-day internationals, however, Indian captain KL Rahul will lead the squad. Senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been ruled out of the white-ball tournament. 

In their most recent ODI meeting, India defeated South Africa by 243 runs at the 2023 World Cup. However, many players, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, have been rested, with a new-look India side taking part in this ODI series, led by KL Rahul.

South Africa captain Aiden Markram hailed India's squad depth before of the encounter. "India can field almost three teams and compete with the best in the world." We have a similar situation in terms of new faces. "It's an opportunity to evaluate players and chart the course for 50-over cricket," he said.

South Africa has six players from their World Cup team in both playing XIs, while India has three. Regardless, India will present a quality playing XI. In addition to Rohit and Kohli, Temba Bavuma, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Shami, and Quinton de Kock will be absent.

The weather forecast for Sunday in Johannesburg calls for thunderstorms between 6 and 8 a.m. local time, with a 51% chance of precipitation. However, the weather is forecast to improve throughout the day, and there will be no rain and the temperature will rise to 27 degrees Celsius.
