James Anderson the Only Bowler Who Can Bowl a Reverse outswinger, Says Sachin Tendulkar

Former Indian cricket team opener and veteran cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has praised England fast bowler James Anderson. Sachin Tendulkar believes that Anderson is the only bowler who can bowl a reverse outswinger at the moment. Sachin Tendulkar has named this special ball as 'reverse' reverse swing.

Sachin Tendulkar while talking to West Indies legend Brian Lara on his mobile app ‘100 MB’ told how important this series is to James Anderson. A three-match Test series has started between England and the West Indies. The first Test match of this series is being played in Southampton. Tendulkar said to Lara, ‘In the case of reverse swing, Jimmy Anderson is probably the first bowler to reverse reverse swing as well.’

In simple language, for the right-handed batsman, in the traditional swing, the Shiny part of the ball is towards the outside and the other part is inside. This is not the case with reverse out-swingers. In the reverse outswinger, the movement of the ball changes. This ball originates outside for the right-handed batsman but the shiny part of the ball remains outside. In both these cases the position of the wrist varies.

According to Sachin Tendulkar, when he looked at James Anderson's wrist position, Tendulkar saw Anderson doing a reverse outswinger with the wrist position like the traditional in-swinger. He had never seen such a thing before.

Tendulkar said, 'I have experienced many times that he holds the ball as he wants to bowl the out-swinger but at the releasing time he tries to move the ball to inside. Most batsmen look at the position of the wrist and what he actually does. He will show you that he is doing an in-swinger but the imbalance between the two halves of the ball will lead it go out.’
