Actually, Gautam Gambhir and Mahendra Singh Dhoni had to share a room during a cricket series. Recalling the story, Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports' Cricket Connected, ' We were roommates for over a month. During this, we used to talk mostly about hair, because Dhoni's hair used to be very long then.’

Gautam Gambhir, who has gone into politics after retiring from cricket, said that when you share a room with someone, then you get to know everything about that person. Gambhir further said, 'I remember we were sleeping on the floor once, because in the first week we had a very small room. Due to the room being small, we removed the bed and slept by laying a mattress on the ground. It was a great moment.’

Gambhir credited Dhoni's successful captaincy to his good luck and to bowlers like Zaheer Khan, who was present in the team. Gambhir said, ‘Dhoni could become a successful captain in Test cricket because he had pacers like Zaheer. The combination of the team in the 2011 World Cup was so much better because Sourav Ganguly worked very hard to prepare players like Sehwag, Yuvraj and Bhajji.’

The Indian cricket team won the Cricket World Cup in the year 2011. Mahendra Singh Dhoni became the second captain to win the World Cup for India after Kapil Dev. Gautam Gambhir was also part of the Indian team played in the World Cup. In the final match of the World Cup, Gambhir played a very important innings of 97 runs against Sri Lanka and played an important role in winning the World Cup for India.
