Ashes 2019: Ian Healy says Cameron Bancroft should be dropped
Ian Healy has called for struggling batsman Cameron Bancroft to be dropped for the third Ashes Test.

Bancroft hasn't exactly set the world on fire in his first Test series since his suspension for 'Sandpaper Gate' last year.

The 26-year-old opener left the first Test in Birmingham with scores of 8 and 7, and could only manage 13 in the first innings at Lord's.

The news isn't much better for fellow opener David Warner, who has scored 2, 8 and 3.

While there's pressure on both men, Healy believes Bancroft should be the one to go.

"Yes, I'd make just one change. I think Cameron Bancroft will go before Warner," Healy said on Sports Sunday on Channel Nine.

"He's technically struggling to me.

"He's getting turned square up when the ball's going away and then he's getting jammed when the ball's going into his pads."

Healy argued that while Warner wasn't getting runs, he isn't struggling like Bancroft.

"David Warner isn't technically deficient yet, but he's certainly not engaged," he said.

"He's not watching the ball closely enough and he's not really aggressive and hitting the bad balls for four.

"He's down, that's for sure, but I'd keep Warner and Marcus Harris would come in for Cam Bancroft for mine."

Healy's view was in stark contrast to former Australian captain Steve Waugh, who called Bancroft the side's longterm opener.

"Sometimes you are going to miss out. If you pick a guy, you back him for the long term," Waugh said.

"Bancroft stayed in there for quite a while, did a good job for the team ... hung in there (while facing 66 deliveries at Lord's).

"He just needed to spend another half hour there, get a few more balls away out of the middle, and he would have been right."
