After White Ball Cricket Shubman May Got Vice-Captain Position in Test Cricket Too

Shubman Gill as Vice-captain in Red Ball Cricket: Shubman Gill has been made vice-captain for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka. Hardik Pandya has been removed from that role. This time Jasprit Bumrah may also be removed. Bumrah is India's vice-captain in Test cricket. By removing him, Shubman can be made vice-captain in red ball cricket as well.

Gambhir is relying on the good fortune of 24 years. In a press conference before going to Sri Lanka, the new coach of India said that he wants Shubman to play regularly in all formats. Gambhir wants to increase his responsibility by making Shubman vice-captain. He sees him as India's captain in the coming days.

India's next Test series is against Bangladesh. It is there that Shubman can be seen as the vice-captain. Rohit was made the captain after Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain of the Test team. Bumrah was made vice-captain at that time. Bumrah also led in Rohit's absence in a Test against England. But according to board sources, he may not be seen as vice-captain in Tests in the coming days.

BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar recently explained the reasoning behind Gill's elevation to the vice-captaincy role in white-ball cricket during a media interaction ahead of the team's departure for the Sri Lanka series.

"With the T20 World Cup around, when Hardik Pandya got injured, it was a challenge. Rohit wasn't playing, but he was available to lead, which was fortunate. We don't want to face that situation again. Shubman is a three-format player who has shown quality over the last year or so," Agarkar stated.

At present, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is the vice captain of India’s Test side, but according to a report by RevSportz, sources in the BCCI have confirmed that Gill is likely to replace Bumrah as the new vice captain when the selectors announce the squad for the two-match series.

First Test against Bangladesh on September 19. That match will be in Chennai. Second match in Kanpur. The test will start from September 27. India-Bangladesh will play a two-match Test series. Team India is currently number one in the World Test Championship points table. By beating Bangladesh, India have a chance to retain that spot and become number one in the ICC rankings.
