Chris Tremain, Scott Boland dismiss Western Australia for 208

Western Australia 208 (Stoinis 80, Philippe 41, Tremain 4-37) lead Victoria 3 for 153 (Pucovski 64* Handscomb 64, Stoinis 1-10) by 55 runsA destructive opening spell from seamers Scott Boland and Chris Tremain handed Victoria the ascendancy on day one against Western Australia at the WACA ground.
Boland and Tremain ran through WA's top order to leave them at 4 for 42 in the 18th over after Peter Handscomb had opted to bowl on a surface with plenty of live grass. Tremain made the first breakthrough before Boland bagged the next three.
Marcus Stoinis and Josh Philippe, though, countered before lunch. Philippe played a rollicking innings of 41 off 27 balls before falling to Andrew Fekete immediately after the break. Stoinis was resolute and got some support from wicketkeeper Josh Inglis. Tremain returned to break the partnership and then run through the tail to end with 4 for 37. Stoinis was the last man out for a well-made 80 as WA folded inside 50 overs.
There was another scalp for Victoria with Matthew Kelly struck in the head and forced to retire hurt. Kelly was substituted out of the game under the concussion rules and was replaced by legspinner Usman Qadir. Kelly was reportedly in good spirits after the incident but was told to rest by the medical staff and will take no further part in the game.
WA made an early breakthrough with Travis Dean edging Cameron Green in the fourth over.
Twenty-year-old Victorian batsman Will Pucovski then took control of the innings. While Marcus Harris and Peter Handscomb both fell for starts of 26 and 27 respectively, Pucovski pushed onto 64 not out at close. Cameron White joined him in a 41-run stand to be unbeaten on 14 at stumps.
