Asia Cup 2022: Virat Kohli, KL Rahul return as India name 15-member squad
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India's squad for the Asia Cup 2022, starting August 27 in the UAE. The first-choice players returned to the squad for the all-important tournament.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were the two big names who returned to the squad after having missed a major chunk of T20Is in the ongoing year. Hardik Pandya's availability has given India the cushion to go with 4 spinners, including Ravichandran Ashwin.

KL Rahul has been named the vice-captain ahead of Hardik Pandya, who recently led India in the 5th T20I in West Indies and the tour of Ireland.

Virat Kohli's place in the side was questioned after a string of ordinary performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Kohli was expected to do well after he was rested for the home T20I series against South Africa but the former captain struggled in England in the Test series and the limited-overs series.

India squad for Asia Cup 2022

Rohit Sharma (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar, Rishabh Pant, Deepak Chahar, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan

When Kohli was not picked for the tour of West Indies, speculation was rife about his place in the side but the former captain has returned to the 15-man squad for the continental tournament.

KL Rahul, who underwent surgery for sports hernia and missed the England tour and missed the tour of West Indies due to Covid-19, is back in the squad.

BUMRAH RULED OUT

However, India suffered a big blow as Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the Asia Cup due to a back injury. Mohammed Shami has been left out of the squad for the continental showpiece event.

Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav have been rewarded for their consistent run in the shortest format of the game.

Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi have also been rewarded for their consistent performances in white-ball cricket, especially in the IPL.

India will begin their Asia Cup 2022 campaign against Pakistan on August 28 in a Group A clash in Dubai. The tournament will begin on August 27 and the final will be played on September 11. Earlier, it was confirmed that the Asia Cup will be hosted by Sri Lanka in the UAE. The tournament was moved out of Sri Lanka due to the ongoing economic crisis.
