The day started and ended with the Indian fast bowlers taking wickets but in the middle there was solid resistance from two players who have conquered the white ball game. A maiden test century for Buttler and Ben Stokes' slowest test match 50 kept the Indian attack at bay for a long time until the second new ball was taken. Bumrah was impressive and it was him who eventually broke that stand. An injured Ashwin wasn't as effective as usual and England have batted the whole day, but barring a freak thunderstorm India will surely take this test match tomorrow morning. Until then, goodnight.
