The Melbourne Stars bowlers had early performed brilliantly to restrict Sydney Thunder to what appeared to be a sub-par total, with Sophie Day taking four wickets and Heather Knight battling to 45. The Stars struggled to ever get going with the bat amidst a brilliant bowling performance from the Thunder, most especially Hannah Darlington who recorded the best ever WBBL figures for the Thunder. Milly Illingworth's cameo briefly threatened to take the Stars to an unexpected victory, but the Thunder have held their to go to the top of the table.
