After winning the toss and batting first, the visiting side made a slow but steady start, but the consistent loss of wickets restricted them to a modest score of 174 with the help of some extras. In the chase, the Australian side seemed to be cruising with back to back 50 run partnerships for the 4th & 5th wickets. But the Sri Lankan side were patient and sparked a collapse in the last bit of the chase, taking 5/12 over 6 overs to almost steal the game for the visitors. That brings to a close the ODI part of the Tri-Series, with all the teams now going to the Gold Coast on the weekend to kick off the T20 leg of the series.
