CHENNAI: For the second day in succession, Grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi had to settle for a draw. In the second round of Aeroflot Open 2018, Vidit drew with Eesha Karavade in an encounter that went on for 60 moves. Both players gave it their all and fought tooth and nail before agreeing to split the points.

It was a similar script for the tournament's defending champion Vladimir Fedoseev who too had to settle for a draw with Andrey Esipenko after 32 moves. While the top two seeds are yet to get a win under their belt at the conclusion of two rounds, the story is a lot different for many others in the tournament.

Aravindh Chithambaram Vr, who drew his opener against Aram Hakobyan, registered his maiden win in the competition as he got the better of Yan Liu in 61 moves. Aravindh, who played with white, will derive a lot of confidence from this tightly fought encounter.

Meanwhile, it was a day to forget for young gun Praggnanandhaa who lost in 36 moves to Igor Lysyj.

Gata Kamsky, one of the dark horses in the tournament, pocketed his first win in the tournament as he beat Sychev Klementy in 29 moves. Kamsky, who had lost his opening match to Ukraine's Kirill Shevchenko, made amends for his first round reversal and sealed the deal.

The event, which is in its 16th year, is witnessing a strong field of 92 players (including 60 Grandmasters) who are fighting it out for glory in the A-Open category.
